Coal gasification

To produce synthesis gas using the Fischer-Tropsch process, hard coal is converted into synthesis gas at temperatures of over 1,000°C in the Lurgi pressurized gasifier or in the Winkler gas generator with the addition of steam, air and oxygen. The synthesis gas consists mainly of carbon monoxide and hydrogen and must be freed from phenols and ammonia after cooling. In a further step, hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen cyanide are removed from the gas. The addition of air and oxygen is done with HOFER compressors.
